family names

I finally learned today where my husband’s middle name came from.  I just thought it was because he was named after his father (as a junior).  Not the case.

We went to a funeral today.  His great uncle passed away early this week.  It turns out, his great uncle has the same middle name and was also a junior.  I had no idea what kind of man he was.

Apparently he was very respected in the state’s capitol city.  Flag’s were at half staff.  People got out of their cars while the procession passed and saluted him.  It gave me chills and still does while I write this.  I met Uncle DoDo (nickname) one time many years ago.

I cried when we sang Amazing Grace.  I cried when his long time friend told stories of this great man.  And of course I cried when we sang Here I Am Lord.  This song gets me everytime.  I can’t even get through the first verse without shedding tears.  They usually start falling when I start the words,,,”Whom shall I send”.

Today we sent one of my husband’s namesakes.
